The demise of the patchwork shop.
I have been meaning to do this post for a while but there has been so much happening here. Late last year I was deeply saddened when my favourite patchwork shop A stitch in Time Fullarton closed down its walk in store and went online. Now my less frequented but still liked The Patchwork Apple is closing down too. Taking with them any chance of my ever working in a Quilt shop fantasy. (I have always wanted to work amongst although those colours and quiltiness like a sugar free candy shop). South Australia is about to face a Quilt shop shortage forcing us to all spend our money online and make AUstralia Post smile. Only problem is where we will go to stitch and chat and share and learn. Sigh

There is still Hetties Patch on Port Road, but I totally agree with you about the lack of patchwork shops here in Adelaide. I help run a community craft group in Oakden on Friday mornings during school terms, where we stitch and chat and share and learn and we also have a creche for the kids so that mums can have a chance to chat and craft without having to worry about them. The cafe there is pretty good to. If you would like some more info just let me know.
ReplyDeleteI am sorry to hear! It is great to have shops around, not only for the sewing and chatting and learning but also to get exactly the right colour you need! I think I will never can shop on internet only!
ReplyDeleteI agree so sad...but yes there's Hetties Pattch and its fab there, they have sticth and chat time too... also a few newies have opened up...one at the Triangle shopping centre at Modbury and another at Valley View, somewhere, unsure but have friends that have been.. so there's still hope for you...

There is also Riverlea Quilts on Unley Rd, they are really nice there and very helpful too, and what about Quiltaholics in Magill, there is also Patchwork by Sea in Brighton as well.
